Casillas Law Group was founded by Mark Casillas. After many years of practicing corporate and international law in large law firms in New York and California, Mr. Casillas wanted to provide his clients the most senior level expertise and client service available at competitive legal fees. Casillas Law Group combines wide-ranging expertise with the ability to execute transactions effectively, and with the same blue chip quality found at large law firms.
Prior to founding Casillas Law Group, Mr. Casillas practiced law at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Silicon Valley. At WSGR he was a senior team leader in Mario Rosati’s group, where he helped run one of the largest corporate practices in Silicon Valley, and he led teams that advised more than 50 startup companies in various rounds of financings (preferred stock, common stock, convertible debt, secured loan, up-round, down-round, bridge, warrants, and other types of financing), as well as M&A, licensing, strategic partner, and IPO transactions. He also led WSGR teams that advised publicly traded companies in M&A, strategic partner, financing, corporate governance, stock option, executive compensation, Securities and Exchange Commission investigation, and stock exchange listing (and delisting) matters. WSGR clients included approximately 3,000 technology startups and 600 publicly traded technology companies. Apple, Netscape and Google are just a few of the many clients WSGR led from startup to publicly traded market leaders.
Prior to WSGR, Mr. Casillas practiced law at LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & MacRae in San Francisco. LeBoeuf is headquartered in New York and is one of the world’s leading corporate and international law firms. At LeBoeuf he specialized in mergers & acquisitions, public and private financings, strategic partnerships, banking and insurance matters, licensing transactions, and general corporate matters. He led transactions in the United States, China, Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Russia, Europe, and Latin America, working with LeBoeuf’s offices in New York, London, Paris, Brussels, Moscow, Riyadh, and Almaty. He was a member of the team that opened LeBoeuf's office in Beijing.
Since the beginning of his career, Mr. Casillas’ experience has included a wide variety of international corporate and finance engagements in several industries throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Russia. Mr. Casillas serves, and has served, on the Board of Directors of numerous technology companies and businesses, a bank, a university, and a non-profit organization. He is co-author of California Limited Liability Companies, a three-volume work which was the first treatise published on LLC's in California (1994) and which is updated annually.
Mr. Casillas graduated from Harvard Law School in 1979, where he was Managing Editor of the Harvard CR-CL Law Review, the nation’s leading public interest law review. After Harvard, Mr. Casillas clerked for the Honorable Oliver Seth, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. He began his career in corporate law at Breed, Abbott & Morgan in New York before moving to San Francisco in the 1980’s. Mr. Casillas is a member of the Bar in California and New York.
